3. Cookies, Analytics & Google Signals
Cookies we use
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. We use the following categories of cookies on the Site:
- Essential cookies: Required for basic Site functionality (e.g., maintaining session state). These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: Used to understand how visitors interact with the Site, including pages viewed, time on site, and navigation paths. See "Google Analytics" below for details.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 ("GA4"), a web analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"), to collect and analyze information about how visitors use the Site. GA4 uses cookies — specifically the _ga and _ga_<container-id> cookies — to distinguish unique users and sessions. These cookies are set as first-party cookies on the rooferdirectory.co domain.
- The
_gacookie is used to distinguish unique users and persists for up to 2 years. - The
_ga_<container-id>cookie is used to persist session state and expires after 2 years.
Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address (which is anonymized before storage), browser type, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and interactions with site features. This data is transmitted to and processed by Google in the United States.
Google Signals
We have enabled Google Signals within our Google Analytics configuration. When Google Signals is active, Google may associate your visit data with information from your Google account (if you are signed in to a Google account and have enabled Ads Personalization). This allows Google to:
- Collect demographic and interest data (such as age range, gender, and interest categories) about visitors to the Site.
- Provide us with aggregated, anonymized reports on visitor demographics and interests to help us understand our audience.
- Enable cross-device reporting, which allows Google to associate visits from different devices with a single user for measurement and analytics purposes.
This demographic and interest data is shared with Google to provide measurement services and to target ads across the Google advertising network. We do not have access to individual-level demographic data — only aggregated reports.
How to opt out
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can opt out of Google Signals and Ads Personalization by visiting your Google Account settings and turning off Ads Personalization. You may also manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect your experience on the Site.
